What is the Law of Life?

Let’s set the record straight! As a profession, Chiropractic has failed to unify and spread a consistent message to the general public which has led to much confusion and several misconceptions regarding Chiropractic care.

Over the years, the profession has maintained a weak existence as a last resort for those suffering with neck and low back pain symptoms. While it is true that chiropractic care provides great results for these patients, it should be pointed out that since its inception in 1895 the chiropractic principle has operated in accordance with the Law of Life. To better understand this concept, let’s take a look at the definition:

The Law of Life can be defined as a universal system of various natural principles which tend to best foster life. In other words, the reproductive success and survival of a particular gene pool instinctively behaves according to some natural rule. Every organism has some instinctive “law” it can follow to be the most reproductively successful and this is true of all living beings: thus, the Law of Life. (1)

Chiropractic maintains that the body achieves a delicate balance via feedback mechanisms (which essentially means communication or a 2-way street) between the brain and the body. The Law of Life reveals we have an inborn or innate intelligence which resides within each one of us and governs all activity.

The chiropractor has a significant impact on the system which coordinates all communication to provide balance, health and healing. This system is referred to as the Central Nervous System (CNS) and is made up of three main components:

  • Brain
  • Spinal Cord
  • Spinal Nerves

Chiropractic philosophy maintains that there are three main stressors that we encounter on a daily basis which lead to interference of the CNS and eventual disease.

Physical – From as early as birth, we encounter physical trauma and stress to the body. As infants we fall repeatedly, begin to suffer injury as adolescents, and develop repetitive stress patterns through adulthood. Additionally, a lack of exercise, movement, and activity along with decreased sleep sets the stage for a compromised nervous system leading to depressed immune function and impeding sickness/disease. Couple all of this with a lack of proper spinal hygiene practices and you have a recipe for disaster!

Chemical– Our grandparents weren’t subjected to the chemical onslaught we are currently facing. There are approximately 80,000 chemicals registered for use in the U.S. and research has shown that while our body is designed to detoxify these toxins naturally, many of these chemicals disrupt our immune, endocrine, nervous, and reproductive systems. You will find these chemicals in our food supply, medications/drugs, cleaning supplies, beauty supplies, pesticides, preservatives, pollution, and heavy metals. This bombardment on the human frame increases our toxic load while causing a decrease in energy level, hormonal Imbalances, weight gain/loss, and chronic pain.

Mental/Emotional- It has been said that the only way to avoid this stressor is to not be alive! It is safe to say that the majority of us stress over our time management, jobs, finances, family, death, relationships, traffic, and a host of others. All of this leads to anger, frustration, procrastination, lack of production/effectiveness, broken relationships, general unhappiness, pain, depression, and the inability to love.

If becomes easy to recognize that if we can successfully rid the body of interference, innate intelligence is given the best chance to foster healthy life and be reproductively successful for generations to come.

Now is the time turn away from a reactive medical system that is based on treating the symptoms of sickness and disease and embrace a proactive approach to optimum health.
